March 2, 2025 - Starting Day 1 in the Pacific Ocean

I'm thinking, let's get a picture and get on with it!

The universal things that everyone says you must do riding long rides over multiple days, (1) drink lots of water but make sure you keep the electrolytes especially on hot days, (2) shammy butter, lots of it!

First Day Ride!
First Day Ride!

So we're off at 9:30-ish, on plan.  It's slow going out of Ocean Beach as we make our way to a bike path that also functions as a homeless getaway…almost ran into someone that seems not well.  So everyone is trying to figure out how this is going to go.  You learn riding with others not to be the jerk that goes flying off without the group.  We're going pretty leisurely and it's tough to contain all the excitement built up over months of anticipation.  But we stay together until we hit a tiny up and then there were 6.  So I guess this is our group.  Norman is cruising along effortlessly.  We rode mostly together for the rest of the day.  My chain popped off the front a couple times but have that remedied now.

Arrived at Viejas Casino, our lodging for Night 1, around 1:30, nice to get in so early.  Did almost a mile and half going back and forth around the casino until we finally found our entrance.

Dinner at the casino was actually pretty decent.  I had a huge Caesar Salad and large plate of spaghetti and meatballs.  We talked about of range of topics but lots of Peter Attia and loss of muscle mass.  More Protein!!!

Hey Terry... this seems so exciting. And what brings me to think of are the following qualities you have:

  1. A great will power

  2. Discipline to train yourself to take up this cycling expedition

  3. Team Spirit, loaded with enthusiasm 😍
